How to Make a Coloring Book: A Beginner’s Guide – The Cover and Publishing Process (Part 3)

Hello, everyone! I’m Theresa, also known by my pen name, Amber Moon. Welcome to the third post in our series on creating coloring books. If you’re just joining us, I recommend checking out the first posts: “How to Make a Coloring Book: A Beginner’s Guide (Part 1) & (Part 2).” Let’s continue our colorful journey! 🎨✨

Designing the Cover

  1. Microsoft Publisher: I prefer using Microsoft Publisher to create my book covers. It’s user-friendly, and I can ensure that my design adheres to KDP’s guidelines.
  2. KDP’s Free Cover Maker: If you’re not comfortable with design software, don’t worry! KDP offers a free cover maker within its platform. You can customize your cover using their templates and tools.

Uploading Your Book to KDP

  1. Access KDP: Log in to your Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) account.
  2. Click “Create”: Start a new project by clicking “Create.” KDP will guide you through the process step by step.
  3. Answer Questions: KDP will ask about your book’s details, such as title, author name, description, and keywords. Fill these in accurately.
  4. Upload Your Documents: Upload your interior manuscript (PDF) and cover file. Preview your book to ensure everything looks perfect.
  5. Order Proofs: Before going live, you will have the option to order proofs to check the physical copy. This helps catch any last-minute issues. (I typically do not order proofs since it costs money and prolongs the process.)

KDP Review and Publication

  1. Review Process: KDP will review your book for formatting errors, content issues, and other quality checks. This usually takes a few days.
  2. Email Notification: Keep an eye on your inbox. KDP will send you an email either specifying changes needed or congratulating you on the publication of your book.

Celebrate Your Accomplishment!

Congratulations! You’ve created a beautiful coloring book. Share it with the world, and may your pages be filled with vibrant colors and happy imaginations!
